This last weekend I explored another side to northern Michigan, Leelanau County. A beautiful place to visit and if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend with great food, wine, and sites with an enchanting atmosphere you must visit Leelanau! We spent time exploring wine country and sipping our way moderately through the country side using the Wine Trail map for exploration. Two of our favorite wineries included Shady Lane Cellars and L. Mawby – which are both very different!
Shady Lane Cellars takes you back in-time with its stoned walls and farm setting dating back to the early 1900’s. The orchard view is breathtaking but the barn and smells are simply nostalgic – oh and the wine is delicious! My favorite was the chardonnay!
L. Mawby had a modern vibe to it and only served bubbly. The place was sassy with its “green” and “sexy” named wine which my husband thought was funny seeing I’m know for my blog and it’s tag line, “Going green is sexy, sassy and fun”! We chuckled our way through some bubbly and enjoyed music and hustle of bustle of the busy wine tasting rooms!
After moderately enjoying our tasting we climbed the sleeping bear dunes and after catching my breath from the climb I had to do it again because the view was breathtaking! The sand felt amazing under my toes and I chuckled watching the kids roll down the hill wondering exactly how I would manage the climb down gracefully!
We had worked out quiet the appetite exploring and ended up in the quaint town of Glenn Arbor – which I left disappointed I couldn’t stay longer and promised myself I would come again! I had the best artichoke dip in the world at the Western Avenue Grill, with mustard seeds. O.M.G is all I can say and I will eat there again!
I enjoyed my travels on the winding back roads I’ll head back the middle of September to taste more flavors and of course new small towns, shops and restaurants.
